Bluemont started when five ordinary people sensed God calling them into a new endeavor. Each had come to faith in Christ as a young person. Each was living in community with others, growing, and reaching out to those around them. Now, drawn to see the Holy Spirit transform lives in a new place, they were sent by their church to Manhattan, Kansas.
Despite their youth, weaknesses and mistakes, God moved. Other people's lives were changed. An initial group of students from Kansas State University came together, and then grew to include others from the broader Manhattan community.
We took the name "Bluemont Church" from Bluemont Hill, a prominent local landmark, and from Bluemont Central College - the Christian school that became K-State. It reflects our belief that we are called to be a city on a hill that equips people to reflect God's light to the world (Matthew 5:13).
Today, more and more people are finding a community and bigger purpose as they are responding to an invitation to join in His bigger story of transforming the world, one person at a time, in every corner of the world.
When Jesus called the first disciples to follow Him and become fishers of men, they ended up spending the next three years together. This rag tag group eventually turned the world upside down.
To answer God's call, we need the right people in our lives. We need genuine friends, and we need mature believers who can pass on what God has shown them. As we grow, we can do the same for others.
Bluemont's community isn't based on meetings, although we encourage people to meet regularly with others for encouragement and training. We also encourage people to be part of one of our Community Groups.
In all that we do, we are endeavoring to create a culture where people live in community with one another as they pursue God's kingdom purposes together.
Jonathan and Reagan Hupp met as university students as their lives were being transformed through their involvement in a new church.
After graduating, they were married and immediately began working as campus ministers. Since then, they have seen God change lives in Lawrence, St. Louis, and Manhattan.
Jonathan and Reagan’s passion is to introduce people to their Creator and help equip them to fulfill their unique calling in God’s bigger purpose. They enjoy traveling, reading, sports, and spending time with their five children.
